Weeks Three & Four : June 25th  – July 6th    “Rox A Boxen”

This week of camp is based on a book by Alice McLerran. “Rox A Boxen” is a story about a group of children who had nothing but boxes and rocks to play with, and through their imagination created a city. The children this week will be creating their own city. Each child, or group of children, will be encouraged to use their imagination to build with, and decorate boxes to represent a store. They will then bring in items from home to “sell” in their stores. Colorful rocks and stones found on the treasure hunting days, will be used as the “Money” to trade for items and services at the stores. This is lots of fun, and it is great to see the children use their imaginations and interact with one another. It also teaches them a little bit about business and economics.   **A camp favorite

Week 11: August 20th – 24th “Hero’s and villains”

At some point all of us have wished we were a super hero, or had some kind of special ability (x-ray vision, invisibility, flying, breathing underwater, etc.). This week we are going nurture that imagination as we create a super hero or villain. They will create a story as to where he or she originated from, how they got their power(s) and who their arch nemesis is and why. Their creative side will come through as they design and color their own shirt and/or cape. Throughout the week they will be competing in many super hero events to show off their powers and see who the ultimate super hero or villain is. There will be games where heroes team up against the villains to save a “damsel in distress”, protect the earth, and an all-out “brawl”.  We will name the top hero/villain on Friday.
